Scrap whispers secret challenge

Things have been a little slow at Scrap Whispers recently because we decided we would host any more weekly challenges, due to the lack of players, but Georgina has suprised us all with a little challenge all about Summer! And even the DT can play along with this one! The challenge is to make a CARD based on a summer activity. Well, I am hoping that we will get a proper summer this year and not get rained of like normal! So sandcastles at the beach are my proposed activity. And yes I've raided the kids sand box again (ssshhh!) I used scrummy Echo park "splash" and "Summer Days" papers and the image is from Tiddly inks. Come and join in the summer fun!

Scrap it with a song - Lady Gaga

Scrap it with a song is back!! We've been off for a while but we're back now and our song this week this Lady Gaga, "Just Dance". I took the word "Dizzy" from the song and turned it into a layout about the highest fairground ride I've ever seen. DD went on it and loved it... you couldn't have paid me to get on that thing. So you see, you don't have to take the song literally choose any part of the lyrics or the way you interpret the song. Come and "just Dance with us"!!

Cushion

Hey all, Hows your weekend going. I thought I'd share with you a little project I got from Sew 4 home. Its a 3 sided neck cushion for my Grandma to help make her more comfortable with she has her cancer treatments. It took me about 2 hours to sew it all by hand (my machine is on the blink). I've already sent it and the verdict is that she loves it!!! Yay! Talking of treatments, I've just completed this years Race for Life which raises money and awareness for Cancer research UK. Its the first time I've done this and I had a ball! I am terribly unfit, quite honestly havent run anywhere since 1992 but I managed to run 3.5 of the 5k race so I am incredibly proud of myself for running it in 37 minutes. Next year I plan on doing it again... and a bit quicker.

Cake

I know, I know! It's been far too long, again! Where on earth has this year gone? Seriously. The last few months have been another blur.. Revision, exam, more revison, another exam, cake making, parties, birthdays, visitors, and a little holiday inbetween. Oh and I'm in training to do the race for life.. a race to raise money for cancer research.. which is hugely important to me right now, as my Gran has agreed to try a new kind of chemotherapy. It won't cure but it may give her a better quality for the time she has. I just wanted to share the birthday cake I made for DD's birthday last week. Actually this was her party cake. Her actual birthday cake was shop bought *gasp*! This is my second attempt at cake decorating ( you might remember my attempt at the Toy Story Aliens for the Boy a few weeks ago?) and I am thrilled with the result. DD was too, most importantly. fairy on a tree stump and toadstools - Check (the little bidie in this picture is taking a nose dive.. it wasnt doing that before :s) A bridge with a stream - Check. A tea party - Check (ish) I love how it looks like she is laying on a slice of battenburg!! :) Lots and lots of flowers - check And I added the plaque. There were also a few butterflies and bees, a snail and some ladybirds. Everything ,except the wires that the bees and butterflies are on, is completely edible. And the kids enjoyed devouring every last crumb! I thoroughly enjoyed making this and didnt even mind when it came to cutting it all up. Although the woman at the party venue kept coming up to check if I really did want it cutting and could I do it myself because she couldnt bring herself to do it, LOL!

Oh and with all the concentration of the cake making I totally forgot all about the party bags, so sat up til the early hours making these rosette headbands to go in the said bags that I had to dash and purchase the day of the party.

It's that time of the month again where we at Scrap whispers inspire your creativity by showing different tecniques for your scrapbooking, cards and other projects. Today tutorial comes from our very lovely, Georgina, who has shown us how to create a quick and very easy gift bow! This technique is great for using up any scraps that we all have lurking around. But this gift bow doesnt just have to go on a gift. Maybe a layout, a card, a photo frame or as a larger piece of arty home decor. I used scraps of Pink Plum collection from Crate paper. And since taking the photo I have added a a butterfly to the centre, just beacause it was sat there looking at me and I thought... Why not?! Turning 3

Tomorrow the Boy turns 3!! Seriously, where on earth does the time go. In just a few months he will be going to nursery and I won't know what to do with myself :) I just wanted to share a couple of photos with you from yesterday. We had an early birthday tea with some family. A few days ago I decided to make The Boy's cake. What was I thinking??? I'd never decorated a cake, ever!! So here I was messing around with some icing and they ended up in a toy story alien form (well, in a fashion). I chose Friday the 13th to start making the cake.... Really I shouldn't have to say any more. The first cake had the consistancy of melted ice cream. Inedible. The second attempt came out like a pancake. Inedible. The thrid attemjpt sunk in the middle and would not come away from the tin. Fell to pieces and was truly disgusting! I know most people would have given up but I wanted to do this for my Boy... So with a deep breath, I literally chucked all the ingreients into a bowl together, beat it with an electric whisk and 30 minutes later, out it came... PERFECT!!!! Then I had to ice it. Rolling it out took some time :s But I got there in the end. Its not perfect, its not technically right (and yes, those aliens are fab at covering up the broken, torn pieces of icing) but the Boy loved it and he, his sister and cousin's all demolished the aliens and stars in roughly 20 seconds.. though it was probably a lot less! LOL So worth 2 hours sleep for. Now, what to do for DD???
